Have Annoying Coworkers Discuss Their Ideas Via Email

Even if they don’t want to, some colleagues are just very annoying. The next time they criticize your idea or come up with a really bad idea, ask them for written explanations via email.

No matter how annoying someone at work may be, you cannot completely interrupt communication with him. However, this does not mean that you should always sit and listen to them chat about your ideas with their own ill-conceived ideas. Jeff Geezy of Entrepreneur invites you to deal with the situation with this simple phrase:

“This is interesting. Can you e-mail more about this?” … If they put their idea in writing, it has several benefits. It forces them to explain their idea more fully so that you can understand it better. causes the discussion to become more objective, rather than getting stuck in a clash of your personalities, and finally, it takes you out of reaction mode and into a place where you can more objectively choose how to react.

Rather than reacting to them in a way that can create drama in the workplace, you give the impression of being willing to listen to others. On top of that, meeting other people shows that you value others’ time. Less annoyance for you and more constructive thinking for them.
