How to Upgrade to Windows 10 Insider Preview Builds

If you’ve installed the final version of Windows 10 on your PC but want to switch to Insider Preview Builds, you don’t need to reinstall Windows. Just tweak this setting.

Microsoft released its first preview build this week since the release of Windows 10, with some memory improvements, title bar color tweaks, and bug fixes (along with a few new bugs, of course). You’ve probably heard about it all over the place, and if you want to try it out on an existing Windows 10 PC, you just need to tweak one setting.

Go to Settings> Update & Security> Windows Update> Advanced Options and click the Get Started button under Get Insider Assemblies. If it’s grayed out, you may need to switch to the advanced or full option under Settings> Privacy> Feedback & Diagnostics> Send your device data to Microsoft. (You can read more about this setting here .)

Please be aware that Insider Builds collect more information about your usage than released versions of Windows 10 and are likely to contain more bugs, so we don’t recommend using them as an everyday driver. But if you need to run the preview for any reason, you can easily migrate your existing installation.
