Confess That You Care About Your Audience to Help Relieve Stress

It is impossible to get nervous. Whether it’s a presentation, a date, or meeting someone new, feelings of anxiety are bound to arise. To help manage your anxiety, confess it to your audience.

As former FBI agent and body language expert Joe Navarro explains, it’s perfectly normal to be nervous. The problem is that most of us try to hide and ignore it instead of accepting it. By acknowledging that you are worried about yourself and others, you can relax:

“The first thing I tell people is that if you’re nervous, there’s a good reason for it,” he says. Maybe it’s your first time meeting people, or going to an interview, or making a terrible presentation.

“Go ahead and forward, don’t try to hide it.”

Navarro says admitting that you’re nervous – and resigning yourself to it – can really help ease some of your anxiety.

Most of the time, if you’re in a situation that makes you anxious, other people in the room know why . You may be meeting a huge crowd or on a first date. Other people can be nervous too! While it’s not a good idea to dwell on it, a quick invitation to admit the situation can defuse some of the tension.
