AT&T Simplifies Its Mobile Plans, Encourages More Data Usage
AT&T today announced a change to its mobile data plans. The company is now bundling the 1GB and 3GB plans into a simpler 2GB option. However, his plans are still pushing customers towards more data.
The new plans are structurally similar to the old ones. You will pay an “access fee” to add a row to your account and then pay a certain amount of money for data (including voice and text). The new plans are as follows:
- 300 MB for $ 20
- 2 GB for $ 30
- 5 GB for $ 50
- 15 GB for $ 100
- 20 GB for $ 140
The first three plans have an access fee of $ 25, but the last two only cost $ 15 per line. This means that the more data you use, the cheaper your data plan is. While this is probably geared in part to families, it is also much easier to nudge users towards higher pricing plans. For example, in the past, you could get 3GB for $ 40. Anyone using more than 2GB but less than 3GB should now upgrade to the 5GB plan, which is $ 10 more than the old 3GB plan.
