Turn Old Shirts Into a DIY Dog Toy
Sometimes it feels like you’re wasting a ton of money on toys that your puppy will destroy in just a few days. Instead, grab some old cotton shirts to make a fun plait toy for free.
Your dog will just as well have a good time with this DIY toy, you won’t have to shell out money and you will get rid of a few old shirts (plus if you have more shirts you can make it again!). Here’s how to do it:
- Cut nine 20×2 inch strips and tie them together at one end.
- Divide the strips into threes and braid them together. Basically, you create three more durable braid strips by dividing the nine stripes into three.
- Leave some fabric open at the end and tie another knot.
You are now ready to play tug of war with your dog! Since this toy is made from old shirts, it is best suited for small to medium sized dogs (large ones will likely rip it up quickly). If you have a ton of old shirts, you can make a bunch of them to donate to friends with dogs or your local shelter (if they donate toys).
Keep in mind that you need to choose the toys that work best for your dog. If they tend to eat what they shouldn’t, this toy may not work for them. You don’t want them to end up eating loose tissue and taking it to the vet for costly removal. Be especially careful and watch them to prevent this from happening.
