Music Site This Is My Jam Closes and Will Be Available Read Only in September
This Is My Jam is one of our favorite and underrated music services , but this weekend the team announced they would be discontinuing. In September, the site will switch to a read-only music archive, which means it won’t completely disappear – just not the same as it used to be.
For those unfamiliar, This Is My Jam is a service that lets you post one track at a time , the song you really love is your “Jam,” which is active for a week. You can follow other people and listen to their jams, and vice versa. This inevitably gives you a super eclectic playlist with music that everyone you follow is enjoying right now.
The site was quite popular, but in a blog post over the weekend, the founders of the site pointed out the ever-changing APIs and code updates needed to run smoothly with TIMJ-backed sites (YouTube, Soundcloud and Vimeo and many more), the level of effort (and cost). necessary to move to mobile, as the site is currently only available on the internet, and the fact that TIMJ was a passionate project and not a business.
In September, the site will become a read-only archive, which means you can see Jam files posted by other people right up to the start of the site, you can play them (as long as they are running), and you can export your own (and others ) jams in the form of Spotify playlists, etc. If you want, you can delete your account and unsubscribe from the archive, taking all your data with you. This is a sad ending to one of my favorite music discovery sites, but once you read their farewell note, you can see why. Check it out at the link below.
