Think of Failure As One Side of the Pendulum.
To be successful, you usually have to fail at some point. We know this, but failure on purpose can be challenging . It helps to understand that accepting failure means that you are in control of it. Try to imagine failure as one side of a pendulum.
In an interview with Entrepreneur’s Meiko Patton, publisher Darren Hardy recalls some of the best tips he has received for success:
At his first real estate seminar, he boldly invited a lecturer to lunch and asked him for the best advice on how to succeed. The lecturer advised him to fail and do it more often. Hardy was taken aback.
So the man took a napkin and pulled out a pen. He wrote on a napkin: “Life, growth and achievement work like a pendulum. On the one hand, you have failure, rejection, pain, and sadness. But on the other hand, you have success, victory, joy and happiness. “
Guess which side we control? Right: the side of pain, failure, and rejection. In this area, we ourselves control our destiny.
How you decide to respond to rejection or failure can make a big difference in how far the pendulum swings. His point is that if success is important to you, you don’t want to be so afraid of rejection that you would rather not swing the pendulum at all. Accepting failure is a concept we discussed earlier. But it’s nice to know that accepting it is one of the variables you can really influence. Coming back to the metaphor, this means that you can make the pendulum swing in the first place. It may be one variable, but it’s powerful.
