Keep Spending in Check With the $ 1 Per Use Rule
Spending money on things that we don’t use as often or that are not important to us is a huge waste. One way to evaluate purchases to make sure we are spending our hard earned money profitably: the $ 1 per use rule.
Refinery29 explains:
Rate everything on a $ 1-per-use basis.
I have to thank my mom for that. Everything I buy – clothes, shoes, household items – is priced on the basis of “Will I wear / use this enough to only cost me $ 1 per wear / use?” Obviously, things like wedding dresses, for example, don’t fall into this category. But the next time you go shopping for this fancy, ephemeral “must have” item, break the cost down into realistic goals. Often times, you find that what seemed like a deal is actually a waste of money, and it will find its way to the back of your closet after a few short socks.
It’s similar to the concept of spending money where you spend your time , but it’s more geared towards avoiding frivolous shopping like this fancy kitchen gadget you’ll only use once on a blue moon.
