Be Mindful of Drainage When Planting a Vertical Garden
Vertical gardens are the perfect way to create a peaceful green space, even if you’re short on space. When you create your vertical garden , think about how the water will drain and what plants will grow at the top versus the bottom of your garden.
Water in a vertical garden will run downwards, so place plants on the bottom that can handle a lot of water. Plants that don’t need that much rain or that tolerate rainwater well (or, conversely, need more light) may be at the top. A little planning when planting will lead to more durable and healthier green spaces. Remember, you don’t need an elaborate drainage system for your vertical garden: you can build one from a wooden pallet or even a shoe organizer .
