How to Skip the Line and Upgrade to Windows 10 Now
If you’ve backed up a copy of Windows 10 but haven’t received an update request yet, here’s a secret: you can skip the line and update right now.
If you just want to upgrade your PC rather than doing a clean install , you don’t have to wait in line. Just follow these steps:
- Back up all your data first! As with any update, we recommend making a backup before proceeding.
- When you’re ready to upgrade, go to this page and download the Microsoft Media Creation Tool. Run it when it finishes downloading.
- Select the “Update this PC” option and click “Next”.
- Let the Creation Tool go through its process. From now on, he should do almost everything automatically.
After a few minutes, your computer will restart and start the update. When it finishes, you should find that Windows 10 is installed and if you go to Settings> About it will show up as fully activated. Sweet!
Note. We only tested this on the computer where the copy was backed up; we don’t expect this to work unless you’ve backed up a copy of Windows 10 for the computer you’re updating. And, as we said earlier, this most likely won’t work for clean installs – only for updates.
As with anything “unsupported”, proceed with caution. If you have any doubts about this workaround, you better wait for the official update notification. (Update: Apparently this method is invisible, but officially supported by Microsoft !)
