Google Will Finally Start Dividing YouTube and Google+
Long ago, Google required anyone commenting on YouTube to have a Google+ profile. This made a lot of people very angry and considered a bad move . Google is now starting the process of detaching YouTube and many of its other properties from your Google+ profile.
In today’s blog post, Google announced that it is going to remove your Google+ profile from products where it “doesn’t make sense” in the coming months. The first of these changes will be YouTube. In a separate post on Google’s YouTube blog, the company explains that as of today, comments you leave on YouTube will no longer appear on Google+ and (very importantly) vice versa.
Of course, this is just the beginning. Google says it will lift other restrictions in the coming weeks. In the future, you will no longer need a Google+ profile to upload videos, comment or create a channel. When this change eventually takes effect, you will be able to delete your Google+ profile, although the company advises not to do so for now, as this will delete your YouTube channel.
Longer term, it’s unclear where else Google will remove Google+ profiles from. The company says it will allow you to “share content, connect with contacts, create a YouTube channel, and more on Google.” One of the other main complaints about Google+ profiles was that you couldn’t leave reviews in places like the Play Store or Google Maps without them, but they are not mentioned. However, this is a step in the right direction.
