Change the Cheap Metal Cart to Organize All Your Hand Tools
Work carts on wheels are great aids in the workshop, but large open trays are difficult to organize without spacers and they tend to collect random tools. With a few DIY trays and holders, you can turn this work cart into something much more rewarding.
These are the types of work carts we are talking about. They are useful, but can quickly turn into a disorganized pile of whatever you throw at them. Luckily, these DIY trays give you the ability to organize them, and you’ll even have an open, unorganized space for any other items you need to carry around.
Using 3/8 “plywood, outline the dimensions of the tray and cut the pieces to size. Then, lay out the rosette sets and any other tools that you want to put on the tray, and trace their outlines. You will need a drill to cut the starting holes for the jigsaw , and then you can go ahead and remove the cutouts.
Attach wooden screwdriver holders to the sides of the work cart and add magnetic strips for other small hand tools. To find out more, watch the video above (or the link below). Mark has a complete step-by-step guide on how he set up his work cart in a video.
