Turn Your Fitness Knowledge Into a Skill You Can Use
If you’re having trouble getting started attaining your fitness goals, it’s often not because of your inability or lack of knowledge. This is likely because you have not yet developed all the skills required to take action. Here’s how to turn what you learn into practical skills.
Let’s say you had to explain brushing your teeth to an alien. You can do this, presumably, because you have both the knowledge and the skills. Go ahead and complete all the small steps you need to actually complete your task. There are a lot more steps than you think, right? (Plus the right order of things really matters!)
Precision Nutrition points out that you can hungrily read every fitness, nutrition, and science blog you can find, but that doesn’t necessarily mean you know how to apply the information you read to your own needs . For example, if you find yourself struggling, it could be due to:
You probably missed at least one step by trying to do Item 2 before Activity 1 (or Item 17 before Activity 1).
And / or …
You may not yet have the skills to do what precedes what you want to do. You may need to practice doing Thing 1 first. You may need coaching or coaching.
So it’s just a matter of process and skill acquisition, not personal failure.
If you haven’t practiced enough, honed, and constantly evaluated these skills, whatever they may be, it’s okay to have problems. Don’t worry, this isn’t a personal failure, you just have to work around your stumbling blocks and turn that knowledge into action . So what can you do to start applying the knowledge you’ve learned?
Engineer vice versa. To outline how to do what you want to achieve, first think about the desired result and then work in the opposite direction.
Be more simple; don’t get discouraged and don’t try to attack all at once. All you have to do is tackle ONE little task at a time, ideally the earliest, most important step.
