The guys at Spotify wanted to figure out what the most distinctive playlists would look like in different cities around the world, so they gathered their data from over 20 billion listener / track relationships and put it all together in an interactive map. … Eliot Van Buskerk of the Spotify Insights blog explains their methodology:
What do we mean by “distinctive”? This is music that people in every city listen to quite a bit, and which people in other cities don’t listen to very much either. So it’s the music that sets them apart from other people.
No two playlists are alike and they are updated twice a month, so you know you always find music that people in every city love. You will need a Spotify account to listen, but a free account will work too. You can see the complete map below.
