Comcast Announces Stream, Internet TV Service for $ 15 a Month
Comcast has decided to join streaming TV by announcing an upcoming service that will allow Xfinity users to view a selection of networks on their laptops, tablets or phones. Provided they are connected to their home Wi-Fi network.
The service, creatively titled Stream, will cost $ 15 a month. It will only be available to Xfinity internet customers, which really makes it look more like a different type of cable TV bill than a true internet streaming service. The Stream will include live TV coverage from networks such as HBO, Fox and NBC, as well as a library of films and TV shows on demand. Users will also be able to use the cloud video recorder to record shows without special equipment.
Comcast says the service will initially launch in Boston by the end of the summer, followed by Chicago and Seattle shortly thereafter. The company hopes that the new service will be available to everyone by early 2016.
