Don’t Judge a Fitness Instructor by Physique

Should I sign up for a class with a Slim Pilates instructor? Or maybe book some trainer sessions with cool calves? The answer may be neither: the instructor’s physique matters less than you think.

While some sports or training can develop some muscles more than others, much of what we think of as a person’s body type comes from genetics and other factors that cannot be formed in a few weeks or months of training. Physiologist Mike T. Nelson explains women’s health:

Of course, if you train your legs like crazy, indoor cycling will obviously improve the instructors’ quads, hamstrings, and glutes, ”he says. But they may have gravitated towards cycling from the beginning because they had strong legs. And barre instructors may prefer ballet-inspired workouts because their bodies are built for endurance rather than explosive strength. After all, people stick to the exercises they are good at.

The instructor may not have originally modeled their bodies with the exercises they are doing now. And your own body may not be built like theirs anyway.

Remember, you choose your instructor based on what they can do for you, not what they look like. If you are trying to make certain changes in your body, you better choose a personal trainer based on his experience and compatibility with you and ask him to create a program for you to achieve your goals.
