Clean Your Bird Feeder or Tub Weekly to Avoid Pests and Diseases
If you turned your backyard into a cozy place for the birds to the feeder for the birds or the tray for the birds , do not forget to clean it every week. This keeps birds happy and healthy, reduces the spread of disease, and prevents insects and other pests from finding breeding grounds.
Summer heat and humidity can increase the likelihood of mold or bacteria contamination of the feeder. After emptying out any remaining seeds or nectar from the feeder, soak it in diluted bleach solution for a few minutes. Clean and rinse the pan thoroughly and allow it to dry completely before putting it back in place. Make sure you also clear any spilled seeds, shells, and bird droppings around the feeder.
If you have a bird bath, you should clean it every week. You will make sure that the water does not get stagnant or contaminated, that it does not spread disease or give insects a place to open a store. Spending just a few minutes each week cleaning the troughs and bathtubs will keep the feathered visitors of your yard healthy and happy.
