Check Your Insurance Policies for Hidden Coverage (Like Massage)

Like overlooked credit cards , home, health and car insurance policies often provide coverage for hidden or unusual things. Before spending out of pocket money on massage, damage to potholes, or property improvements, check your rules.

The Christian Science Monitor has compiled 26 amazing things covered by insurance. Some of them are unlikely to ever be needed – for example, property damage from meteorites and space debris, or cows slaughtered by cows – but others can be very useful.

For example, thanks to the Affordable Care Act, most insurance companies pay for breast pumps for young mothers. If you have chronic pain and have a doctor’s prescription, you can get health insurance to pay for regular massage treatments or even a hot tub.

Some home insurance policies cover the cost of home renovations your city needs to get it up to date, and many auto insurers treat a pothole as a collision so you can get them to cover for that damage.

Coverage will of course be policy dependent and, as always, limited by your deductible. You will probably also want to weigh the potential risk of raising your discount rate if you sue.
