Make a Quick Fix Cart With a Towel and a Book

If you need to shoot a tracking video, you don’t need a fancy slider or camera cart. You can make an impromptu version in 30 seconds from things in your home: a thick book and a towel.

Just place a towel on a flat surface, place a book on top of it, and place your camera on top of the book. Start video recording and slowly pull the towel. According to Instructables user Paige Russell, the book acts as a motion stabilizer.

Russell’s original method replaces the towel with some kind of powder – cornstarch, baking soda powder, powdered sugar, etc. But that will inevitably lead to a mess. The towel trick suggested by a commentator at Petapixel sounds much cleaner.

However, this is only a quick fix. If you use the slider regularly, you can build your own with PVC pipes for $ 20 or repurpose old skateboard wheels .
