PSA: Enable This Setting to Password Protect Facebook Payments
Facebook is quietly introducing a feature that lets you send money to friends via Messenger. However, by default, your payments are not protected by a password or PIN. Here’s how to enable it.
Facebook’s payment sending feature is currently rolling out and is showing up so prominently that you might have discovered it by accident. The button sits right next to the text box on your desktop, and it even turns any dollar number you enter into an interactive link to send money. This is useful if you want to split payments. However, Facebook does not require any authentication by default to send money. If you already have a payment method associated with your Facebook account (for example, to spend money in apps), it might make it easier for someone with access to your Facebook account to send money to themselves or to someone. something else. To prevent this, follow these steps:
- Go to your account’s billing settings here, or go to Settings> Payments> Account Settings.
- In the “Settings” section, change the password setting from “Off” To On.
Easy, right? Now, if anyone ever tries to send money from your account, they will need to enter your Facebook password before they can proceed. While sending money using Messenger without your permission can be difficult anyway (the user will need access to your Facebook account in the first place), it’s still helpful to have at least a little protection given how many people might not know about it, the feature is even being rolled out. from the very beginning.
