Neo Desktop
Flickr user Sanjeev put together this desktop on his Mac to demonstrate how useful GeekTool can be. He’s right – it’s very helpful and we’re impressed. Here’s how he set it up, and how you can too:
Remember: if you want your desktop to be featured here, submit it to our desktop demo! Just post it (and how you did it) on your Kinja blog (the one in your account) and tag it as a “desktop showcase”. Let’s see, see and, if you like it, imagine! You can also post it to our Flickr pool like Sanjeev did here, but we’re checking out the Desktop Showcase first!
Now, if you have a Mac and want to do something like this for yourself, here’s what you need:
Sanjeev has several custom computer programs that he uses for the time, date, and Spotify “Now Playing” that appear around elements of his wallpaper – you’ll need to go to his Flickr page (link below) to get them – but it does include the code you need to make them work and appear on your desktop in one place, which is great!
We’ll probably get rid of unnecessary folders on the desktop and possibly hide the Dock automatically, but obviously Sanjeev has a lot of work to do and we don’t blame him for that. If you like what you see, let him know from the link below, and if you have questions or can’t get something to work, ask him there too!
Do you have a beautiful and functional desktop to show off? Share with us! Post it to your personal Kinja blog using the Desktop Showcase tag, or add it to our Lifehacker Desktop Show and Tell Flickr pool . Screenshots must be at least 640×360 in size and include information about what you used, links to wallpapers, skins and themes, and any other important information. If your wonderful desktop catches our attention, you may be on our favorites!
