Google Play Now Offers Free App of the Week
There isn’t a ton of reason to use the Amazon Appstore over Google Play, but one key exception is the free app of the day . Until now, Google hasn’t offered any such promotions, but that seems to be changing with a quiet new “Free App of the Week” promotion.
As Android Police points out, this promotion is currently hidden under the “Family” tag, so if you were browsing in the wrong place, you may have missed it. The currently free app is a kids’ game called Daniel Tiger Grrific Feelings . Presumably, this will change every week, although it is currently unclear how to know when the new free app will be available.
However, even if you are not interested in the relatively unknown child’s game, it is still remarkable, as Google still didn’t even have a mechanism to give away games for free. Previously, if a developer of a paid app changed their price to a free one, the Play Store would not allow him to change it back to a paid app. This made such pranks impossible. While Google hasn’t announced an official policy change, the deal appears to be working, automatically applying a discount code to bring the app’s cost down to zero. Regardless of how it works, it looks like Google’s plans continue to offer select deals to look out for.
