17 Stores That Offer Full Refunds for Used Items
Have you ever bought something, brought it home and tore it up, only to realize that it sucks, or doesn’t fit, or just isn’t what you thought? Then understand that since you have opened it, you cannot bring it back and are stuck with it for eternity. Fortunately, some retailers will allow you to return used items without question.
This post originally appeared on the Rather Be Shopping site .
Some stores have great returns policies that are generous to customers and allow them to actually return used or opened items (just don’t abuse them, or you might bet they’re gone forever). Below are all stores that fit this category.
Anthropology
Anthropologie’s return policy is pretty good:
- If you are not satisfied with your purchase for ANY reason, they will take care of you with a full refund or exchange.
- You can even get refunds for worn-out items purchased over a year ago, with or without a receipt. If you don’t have a receipt, they will tell you the current selling price of the item.
Apple Store
If you bought an item directly from the Apple Store, you can return used items . Here are the details:
- You have exactly 14 days to return items, open or unopened.
- You can use this policy mainly to “test drive” items to see if you like them.
- Non-returnable items include open source software, downloadable electronic software, Apple Store gift cards, developer products (memberships, technical support calls, WWDC tickets), and Apple print products.
Athlete
Athleta sells popular workout / yoga clothing and shoes for women and has a fantastic return policy .
- Unlike parent companies Old Navy, Gap and Banana Republic, you can return worn Athleta clothing for ANY reason.
- There is no timetable for returns or exchanges.
Baths and bodies
Here are the details of the Bath & Body Works ” 100% Guarantee “:
- On their website: “If at any point you are not completely satisfied with the quality of our products, you can return them to any of our Bath & Body Works stores.”
- If you don’t have a receipt, they’ll still pick up the item, but give you the lowest selling price ever.
- If they think you are abusing their return policy, they reserve the right to scan your driver’s license so that you do not abuse their policy in the future.
Bath & Beyond Bed
Bed Bath & Beyond ‘s return policy was changed on April 20, 2015, but it’s still good.
- If you have a receipt, you can return all items, used or otherwise, for a full refund ANY time after purchase.
- If you don’t have a receipt, they will try to find your order in their system. If they cannot find it, you can still return the item with MINUS 20% of the current selling price.
- If you are returning an item on a gift receipt, you can also receive a full refund or exchange.
Body shop
The Body Shop also has a very liberal return policy. Here’s what you need to know:
- If you have a receipt, you can return new or used items for a full refund.
- There is no time limit, so be sure to keep these receipts.
- The best they can do without a receipt is store credit at the lowest selling price in the last 30 days.
Costco
Costco’s return policy is legendary . Here is the skinny one:
- You can return goods to the warehouse, regardless of shape or condition, if they are not completely satisfied.
- The only products subject to the time limit are electronics, which expire 90 days from the date of purchase. The following are considered electronics: TVs and projectors, computers, touch-screen tablets, cameras, camcorders, MP3 players and cell phones.
- In addition, original documentation is required to return all diamonds weighing 1.00 carats or more.
- Other than diamonds, no receipt is required as Costco can find your order information in their system.
CVS Pharmacy
While CVS doesn’t take back most of the elements it uses, it does make one big exception …
- Cosmetic products have a 100% guarantee. If for any reason you do not like it, simply return it open or unopened for a full refund.
- There is no time limit for return, but you must have the original receipt.
Eddie Bauer
Eddie Bauer has an Unconditional Lifetime Warranty on all of its products. Here’s what you need to know.
- Eddie stands behind their clothes: “If something you buy doesn’t meet our standards, you are invited to return it at any time.”
- When returning items with a receipt, you are eligible for a full refund or exchange.
- When returning goods without a receipt, you can get a store credit or exchange.
Kolya
Kohl’s employees have an amazing No Questions – No Problems guarantee. This is how it works:
- Kohl’s will collect all items, new or used, at any time if you are not satisfied with your purchase. No questions were asked.
- There is no time limit on ALL returns and no receipt is required if your purchase has been on your Kohl card in the last 12 months.

End of earth
Lands’ End’s Return Policy is titled “ Guaranteed. Period. “And very similar to the politics of Eddie Bauer.
- Lands’ End will collect any item at any time and for any reason. No questions were asked.
- If you’ve been wearing something for a couple of weeks, months, or years and you decide it’s not for you, they’ll take it back for a refund or exchange.
- If you return an item whose purchase dates back 9 months or more, they will refund your money in the form of a check.
- If you return an item without a purchase record, they will refund you at the lowest selling price in the form of a Lands’ End Gift Card.
LLBean
LLBean also has a 100% Satisfaction Guaranteed policy worth knowing about.
- They will pick up both new and heavily used items if they fail or if you are unhappy for some reason.
- Without a check? No problem. If the receipt cannot be found, they will “give you an LLBean Gift Card at the current selling price of the item or replace your item.”
- If the original item is no longer available, they will likely call or email you “to help determine the alternative that works for you.” Quite an amazing policy.

Zappos
The Zappos Service Center is legendary and often does everything it can to make the customer happy. Here’s what you need to know:
- The Zappos website states that all items must be returned in their “ original condition” within 365 days of purchase.
- But … I found this website that tells about a blogger who bought an expensive pair of sneakers from Zappos, ran over 400 miles in them, but kept getting blisters. He thought he screwed up because he didn’t have the original packaging. But he decided to call them anyway, and they not only replaced his shoes with a new size, but also gave him a loan of $ 35 because the shoes became cheaper. Such a cool Zappos.
- When it comes to returning used shoes, clothing and bags, your best bet is to call them at 1 (800) 927-7671 and explain your situation.
Happy return.
