Why You Should Consider Using a Credit Card to Pay for Repair Services
You can usually save a lot of money by fixing things instead of replacing them. To avoid falling into the bogus payment trap, consider paying with a credit card.
The more research you do before choosing a repair technician, the less likely you are to run into any problems. However, bad things can happen and you want to protect yourself as much as possible. This is why Consumer Reports recommends using a credit card to pay:
Make any deposit or payment by credit card. So, if a store is trying to speed up the process, for example, it inflates your price or charges for a part that it didn’t replace, you can dispute the payment with your credit card issuer … try to dispute the payment, especially if the store did work that you did not authorize , or charged you more than you agreed.
When all is said and done, your credit card company may not be able to fix everything, but it does at least give you a chance. Hopefully you can find a reputable repairman so you don’t have to worry about this, or you can always try to repair it yourself if it’s easy enough.
