How to Peel a Head of Garlic in 10 Seconds With Two Bowls
Peeling the garlic is not an easy task, and it can take a few minutes to peel all of that skin. There is a much easier way: you can clear your entire head in less than 10 seconds using just a couple of bowls.
There is always an old tried and tested garlic for chopping and peeling garlic with a knife, but this is only still. You will still have to dig in the (smelling) garlic with your fingers and peel it off. For one or two cloves, this might be fine, but if you’re using a lot of garlic, try this: toss the minced head of garlic into a bowl, glue another bowl to it, and shake vigorously. (If he is particularly fussy, you may have to reheat it in the microwave oven and peel ).
Within seconds, you will find that each clove has completely shed its skin and is ready to cook (or repel mosquitoes ). Just remember to drink a glass of milk to neutralize your garlic breath when you’re done.
We first presented this tip in 2011 using this video from Saveur . This video is still great, but we’ve added our own to this post, which shows the process in action through a glass bowl and a slow motion camera. Enjoy!
