Avoid the Mess at Work After Vacation by “park It on the Ramp”
Getting back to work after a pleasant vacation can be challenging. You want more vacation, but it may be difficult for you to pick up where you left off. An old writer trick might help.
While it can be very helpful to make yourself a to-do list before you leave on vacation, this list isn’t going to help much if you can’t remember why you need it. This is why Harvard Business Review’s Alexandra Samuel recommends “park on the downhill”:
A common writing tip is to “park on the downhill”: end your day with a note by leaving yourself a note of where you intend to work the next day. It’s actually easier to move on to the next phase of a project that’s already in progress than starting from a blank page, so be sure to park at least a couple of projects on the way down by writing yourself a note about where you plan to pick up again when you return.
Now you will know what you need to do and why it is important for the goals that you set before you melt into bliss. Make your message detailed to yourself and write it so that your brain understands it right away. You want to instantly remember what you were thinking. When you get back to work, your mind will be able to jump into right thinking without wasting a lot of time.
