Stop Procrastinating Housework by Forcing Yourself to Do It.
If you find yourself staring at a sink full of dirty dishes, thinking it will take forever , you shoot yourself in the foot. Take time to mind your own business, and you will find that you are getting it done much faster than you thought.
It takes time and effort to put off doing housework. You don’t want to spend all your free time cleaning and you don’t want to waste what little energy you have on simple things. However, this could only be a matter of point of view. Annie Mueller of Asian Efficiency invites you to change the way you do things by timing yourself:
Emptying the dishwasher was my least favorite job. I set it aside and let the dishes accumulate in the sink, annoyed every time I walk past the kitchen. Then I tried it on myself. Four minutes to empty the thing. Really? Just four minutes? Not so bad. Much of my resentment, fear and, as a result, procrastination, comes from a misjudgment of how long it takes to do something.
When you see how little time it takes to get your chores done, you know you have enough time to get it done. Plus, now that you can see how fast chores can be done, you may realize that it doesn’t take as much effort as you thought. So grab a kitchen timer or use your smartphone and see how fast you really are when you buckle up and get to work .
