Use Miso to Add an Extra Dimension to Hummus
If you follow a simple formula, you can easily make hummus from just about anything . But for a totally unexpected twist, try miso-infused hummus.
Next time you’re making hummus, Tara O’Brady, author of the Seven Spoons blog and the new book of the same name , suggests adding a generous spoonful of fermented soybean paste. White miso (also known as shiro ) is the roundness of the chickpea paste, as well as the enhancement of the savory umami. To add even more oriental accent, top off the sauce with a little toasted sesame oil.
More details, including a recipe from scratch, are provided below, although if you’re feeling lazy (we won’t judge) you could probably try this quick trick as a way to spice up a store-bought simple hummus.
