If Your New Credit Card Now Has a Better Bonus, Ask for an Adjustment
If you are into gambling with credit card rewards, you know that sign up bonuses can really pay off. Many credit card issuers return cashback for free just for opening a card and using it. But suppose you receive a bonus, and shortly thereafter, you notice that the issuer is offering an even better bonus. Try asking for an adjustment.
MyBankTracker interviewed a banker at Chase who showed that adjusting is often as easy as asking:
Anyone who signed up for the $ 100 bonus is rightly upset when the $ 200 bonus became available shortly after signing up. Instead of sulking about a missed opportunity, just contact Chase to adjust the bonus. You can do this using secure online messaging or over the phone. Make sure you request an adjustment within 90 days of opening an account and that you still meet the spending requirements for the larger bonus offer.
Chances are, if Chase is lenient with this, other issuers could do the same. If you come across a better bonus after the fact, call about it. Check out their full post to learn more.
