Stream YouTube and Netflix to Your Smart TV, No Chromecast Required
The Chromecast is a great little device , but if you don’t have one at home, you can still stream YouTube and Netflix to your TV using the open source DIAL feature.
DIAL, which stands for Discovery And Launch, was created by Netflix and YouTube, originally used by Chromecast to stream videos to your TV. What most people don’t know, however, is that DIAL is still built into many Smart TVs. This means that if your TV has a Netflix or YouTube app, you can stream videos in the same way: just open YouTube or Netflix on your phone, find the video, and press the broadcast button. If your TV appears, you can click on it to stream the video to your TV.
It only works with Netflix and YouTube and is not available on all TVs (I couldn’t find this option on my Samsung Smart TV), but Chris Hoffman from How-To Geek explains that most Smart TVs should have this option and you don’t even you need to turn on nothing – just make sure your TV is connected to the internet and set up with Netflix and YouTube. Many users on this Reddit thread have also noted success.
So, check out the link below for step-by-step instructions on how to try this, and see if it works for you!
