Get Rid of Your Rush on Vacation With a Day of Tourism
When you’re traveling for fun, excitement can lead you to squeeze too many things into your schedule. To keep your trip from being completely exhausting, set aside just one day for all your travel affairs.
You want to get the most out of your vacation investment, but when you squeeze so much into it, you can barely look back and enjoy the experience. Adrienne Brough from Apartment Therapy recommends making a promise to yourself that you won’t try to see everything:
This could be your first and last time in _______ city, right? However, this thinking is simply wrong and can lead to debilitating days where we don’t live in the present, don’t actually absorb anything, and return home to memories that are hazy and rushed. But what if you want to see everything? Plan ahead. Consider celebrating a truly touristy day and seeing tons of things that you just check on your wishlist. Then try to spend the rest of your vacation doing more time and less work, even if you have time to just linger somewhere.
Narrow down your list to the important things you really want to see and get rid of them in one day. The rest of your trip may still involve observing and doing other things, but now you’ve given yourself time to really enjoy it. For example, wandering through the alleys of Paris may seem more enjoyable and memorable to you than fighting a crowd in the Louvre. Wherever you go, a little planning and prioritization in advance will help you not overload your route with thoughts of “I’ll never come back.”
