Add Just Five Minutes to Your Workout to Dramatically Improve It

When it comes to health, the little things can make the biggest difference. For example, ask to get dressed a little, or remove sugar from coffee, or extend your workout by just five minutes.

Five extra minutes may not sound like a lot, but it may be the most efficient use of your workout time – even better than exercising another hour on another day, because you are pushing your body more distance or at a faster pace. than you have done before (for example, by running):

Not only do you benefit directly from the increased output, but the benefit is not linear. When you add this extra movement every day, you trigger [the SAID principle ] (specific adaptation to imposed demand) more efficiently. The SAID principle changes your brain and body based on the demands placed on it – one of the main factors is frequency. So doing that extra 140 minutes every week (or 35 minutes if you’re just starting out with an extra 5 hours) is actually more efficient than just adding a fourth training day and doing another hour, so every minute done every day is more efficient. And more effective than putting it all together in one extra day.

There is a point where you will see diminishing returns after implementing the extra “every little bit” effort , but if you haven’t reached that point yet, consider moving another 5 minutes to get a 30% return on investment (ROI). Even if those 5 extra minutes are just one simple exercise when you get up or take a break from work.
