Chrome Beta on Android Helps Prevent Duplicate File Downloads

Android: Most browsers allow you to download a million copies of the same file by simply adding “(1)” or “(2)” to the file name to distinguish all versions of the same file. However, if you are running Chrome Beta on Android, the newest version will offer to replace the existing file or create a new one before downloading.

This feature is a small change but welcome on a platform where storage space is of the essence. For unknown reasons, most browsers don’t check the Downloads folder to see if a particular file already exists before getting a second (or tenth) copy. There is no word yet on whether this feature will appear in other versions of Chrome, but it is most needed where it is.
