Store Carrots in Water in the Refrigerator for an Easy, Healthy Snack.

The urge to grab a mid-day snack can be strong, and you can easily get hold of chips if there is no healthier option nearby. Keep this option in front of you, on the top shelf of your refrigerator, so the next time you go to the kitchen, the first thing you find is fresh carrots, peppers, or another vegetable.

James Fell explains in his blog that when he is hungry, he often goes to the kitchen and opens the refrigerator to see what’s in there. Holding a few young carrots in a bowl of cold water right in front of the door, he sees them right away and has a mental trigger to just get into the water, grab the carrots and chew. By setting this trigger, he can develop a healthier snacking habit instead of rummaging through the pantry looking for something far less healthy.

If young carrots aren’t your forte, you might want to consider chopping peppers in a plastic bag, sticks of celery in water to keep them crisp, slices or spears of cucumber, or even broccoli blossoms or other free food . It may sound silly, but the point is right. You let go of the urge to snack, giving yourself immediate gratification and challenging the broccoli dough. This means that if you’re not hungry enough to snack on these carrots, you’re actually not that hungry, are you?
