PSA: Using Google Project Fi Get Rid of Some Google Voice Features
Google is now a mobile operator with the launch of Project Fi , and it is bringing some functionality from Google Voice. However, once you sign up for Project Fi, you also lose a few of your voice features.
People started getting invites to Project Fi, and Reddit user idreamincode (along with a Project Fi rep ) is answering all sorts of questions about the process on the / r / Android thread. Most notable of the many: Project Fi will let you port your Google Voice number or choose a new one, but either way you will lose access to Google Voice. It will contain some of the same features (such as voicemail transcription and call forwarding), but others, such as sending text messages from the Voice web app, making calls using Google Talk, and others, will disappear.
You will be able to get them back if you log out of Project Fi, but while you are using it, you will not have full Voice functionality, at least for now. Visit the Google support page below for more information, as well as the Reddit thread for other nitty gritty details.
