The Perfect Way to Remove Wood Plugs From a Hole Saw

The hole saw attachment cuts perfectly round holes in wood with your drill. It only takes a few seconds to punch the hole, but the most time it takes to remove the wood plug from the saw. Here’s an easy and methodical way to clean your hole saw so it’s ready for the next cut.

Hole saws have holes on the side so you can stick in a slotted screwdriver to remove a jammed wood cork. It’s frustrating, but eventually you will get the wood. There is no easy way to do this, but the following methods take a different approach that does not require a screwdriver.

Drill two pilot holes on either side of the hole saw pilot bit. Then drive a couple of long screws into the pre-drilled holes. Once they reach the hole saw, they will pull out the plug. Make a few turns on each side before unplugging.

Unfortunately, this will only work with the hole saw plugs with the larger side – smaller plugs are not that simple. Watch the video to see this trick in action.
