This Periodic Table Compares Natural and Artificial Sweeteners.
Simple table sugar. Honey. Raw sugar. Splenda. There are many sweeteners you can find on food and beverage labels, or choose to sweeten your food. This table shows the positive and negative properties of all of these sweeteners.
In the chart from the Washington Post, sugars are grouped into categories such as raw, cooked, partially refined, refined, and synthetic. The number in the upper left corner indicates how sweet the sweetener is compared to table sugar, which has a sweetness level of 1 (useful if you are choosing a sweetener for baked goods ). The symbols to the right highlight positive qualities, such as diabetic-friendly or nutrient-rich, and negative ones, such as cavities or metabolic problems if taken too much.
