Wood flooring needs help to survive several seasons of snow, rain and freezing temperatures. Prepare your deck for the summer by taking a close look, cleaning and painting as needed.
Start by cleaning your deck of all furniture and sweeping away dirt and leaves. Repair raised nail heads, debris, and loose railings.
To deep clean your deck, you’ll need a good push brush , an electric sink , a deck cleaner, and a spray pump . If you do not have a washing machine, you can take it for rental in Home Depot or at the tool rental.
Follow the instructions in the video above to clean the deck and apply the stain or sealant . Check if your deck needs sealant by spraying a little water on it. If it flies up, your deck is protected. But if it gets absorbed and the stain darkens, it’s time to apply a new coat of sealant.
