AutoMate Turns Your Phone Into an Android Auto-Style Dashboard
Android: Android Auto rollout is one of the slowest for Google, and unless you have a Lollipop phone and an expensive aftermarket headunit , you won’t be able to use it. If you’d rather ditch expensive car modifications, AutoMate can provide you with a similar dashboard experience with just your phone.
For some unknown reason, Android Auto hasn’t officially been released as a simple app that could be used on any old phone in landscape mode. While AutoMate is in no way official, it does many of the same functions, including controlling your music player, getting directions, and reading your lyrics aloud.
The app is currently in beta, so in order to download it, you must join the Google+ community here and then register to be a beta tester here . AutoMate is slightly less fluid than you’d expect from Android Auto (it launches Maps and music apps from the outside, for example, rather than accessing those features inside AutoMate itself), but larger buttons and less distractions should help drivers on the road.
