Always Consider the Time Spent on “free” Items First.

You probably know that few things in life can be truly free, but it’s still important to think about other costs associated with “free” things. More often than not, the freebie will cost you something more valuable than whatever you have: your time.

There is nothing wrong with getting free stuff, but often you will have to spend some time to get what is a freebie. You may have to queue, complete a task, go and pick it up, or slowly earn it through some kind of reward system. John Wedding at Might Bargain Hunter suggests making time one of the first things you pay attention to when there is a freebie in front of you:

Time can only be spent once. Then it’s not there … estimate how long it will take to meet the requirements to get the free item, and how likely you are to get the item. Then you can decide whether to bite or not.

So when you see this awesome freebie staring in your face, ask yourself, “How long will I have to wait?” Patience is a virtue, but consider how much your time is really worth to you. There is nothing worse than waiting to receive something, only to be disappointed, irritated and filled with regret.
