Google Data Saver for Chrome Optimizes Web Pages to Use Less Data
The new Google Data Saver Chrome extension helps you reduce your data consumption by compressing the pages you visit. This can come in handy if you occasionally access the Internet from your laptop via a mobile hotspot or smartphone.
As soon as you install the extension, it immediately starts working. I found a slight noticeable difference in image quality after installing Data Saver (one of the tradeoffs using compression), but it looks like the extension can cut up to 45% of your data usage.
Data Saver is currently in beta and does not support secure (HTTPS) or incognito pages. However, it is already available in Chrome for Android and iOS and you can now enable it on your computer.
