One of the newer scams to be aware of is asking for personal information before allowing you to view a property. This is often done under the guise of “speeding up the process” and is a ploy to obtain sensitive information from you, such as social security numbers and bank accounts.

In fact, the only thing a landlord can legally ask you to do before allowing you to view the property is for a photo ID.
