Build a Square and Level Area for a Barn or Tiny House

There are many guides for building sheds on the Internet, but often lacking in how to properly build a foundation so that it is square, even, and less prone to rotting. This video shows you how to complete all three.

Take your time and take your time with building a barn. The easiest way to check that your 2×6 base is square is to measure angle to angle and adjust until the two measurements match. Use 1/2 “plywood to temporarily fix each corner after it is square, and use 4” deck screws with washers to secure the 2×6 corners to each other.

Raising the platform off the ground will protect it from rotting, but it can be difficult to level. Use the bubble level and clamps to adjust the height. For a final check, place the spirit level across the corner so that it rests on opposite sides, then clamp it firmly and secure the frame to the base.

The best advice is how to install floor joists when you are alone. Use a clamp to attach the 2×4 beam to the bottom of the frame and use it to support the floor beam as you set it in place and secure it.

There are many other tips in this video, including best practices for measuring beams and how to prevent creatures from building a house under your shed or tiny house.
