The Safest Used Cars for Less Than $ 10K According to Consumer Reports

If you’re looking for a reasonably priced vehicle that’s safe and reliable for you or your newly licensed teenager, Consumer Reports suggests these are some of the best models out there.

Used cars are a great way to purchase transportation without spending your budget, especially if it’s for your child. But what makes one used car safer than another? Consumer Reports looked for older vehicles with electronic stability control (which means they possibly have anti-lock brakes and traction control ), side airbags and curtain airbags in addition to regular front airbags, decent handling, good braking distance and comfort … t too fast or too slow. Here are some of the models they chose, in no particular order:

  • Chevrolet Malibu (2009-2012, 4-cylinder): from $ 8,125
  • Ford Fusion (2010-2012, 4-cylinder & Hybrid): from $ 8,325
  • Hyundai Sonata (2006-2014, 4-cylinder, naturally aspirated): from $ 5450
  • Kia Soul (2010-2011): from $ 8,925
  • Toyota RAV4 (2004-2012, 4-cylinder): from $ 5,590

Most of the vehicles they recommend are midsize or larger sedans, as opposed to SUVs because sedans tend to have a lower center of gravity. There is no reason to save money on your child’s first car, or even on your own car if you just want safe and reliable transportation. Just make sure you are knowledgeable about what you want and don’t be afraid to shop . You can see more of the recommended models and why they chose each one by following the link below.
