Prepare Garlic Paste in a Plastic Bag for Easier Cleaning

Garlic paste comes in handy any time you want to add a pungent garlic flavor and smooth texture to any dish. Most chefs and home cooks use a technique that involves dragging a chef’s knife across a cutting board, but Food & Wine showcases a new way of cooking that changes everything.

Justin Chapple demonstrates this technique in the video above. It can be used in small or large amounts, and best of all, it doesn’t leave you a garlic mess to clean up. Simply place the peeled garlic cloves and salt in an airtight freezer bag, close the bag, and lightly crush it with a hammer. Use a rolling pin to roll the chopped garlic into gruel. Here! You’ve got garlic paste for making stews, dipping sauces, salad dressings, and more.

If you use this substance a lot, you can make a lot and freeze it in pre-portioned amounts for ease of use. Or you can keep it fresh every time. Either way, there is no need to ever spend money on jar of garlic paste.
