10 Safest Major Cities in the World
It is helpful to have a general idea of how safe cities are. Maybe you are looking for a new place to live. Maybe you are just trying to assess where you live now. Anyway, here are the ten safest major cities in the world.
In its 2015 Safe Cities Index, the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) used 44 specific metrics to determine how safe certain cities are. They then categorized them into four main categories of security:
- Digital Security : Identity Theft, Online Privacy
- Health safety : environment, air and water quality
- Infrastructure safety : buildings, roads, bridges
- Personal safety : crime, violence
The EIU also consulted with researchers and experts to analyze data based on interviews and information from sources such as the World Health Organization. They only looked at some of the largest cities in the world, and not all cities in the world are included in this list . It’s still interesting to see how these cities stack up, just keep that in mind if a particular city isn’t on this list. According to research:
The index focuses on 50 cities (see box above the page for a complete list and breakdown by region) selected by The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) based on factors such as regional representation and data availability. Therefore, it should not be seen as an exhaustive list of the safest cities in the world.
Top 10 cities from which they studied:
