Comb Through Facebook Invitations to Remember People’s Names

It’s always a little awkward when you walk into a friend’s party or event and can’t remember someone’s name. Lifehacker alumnus Adam Duchis suggests taking a closer look at these party invitations to remind yourself of people’s names and faces.

If you are bad with names, it sucks to bump into someone for the third or fourth time and not know their name. If you have mutual friends, it is very easy to go through the pre-party. Dachi explains:

If the party was organized via a Facebook invite, you can simply check the list of attendees and look at their photos. This way, you can name faces ahead of time so you don’t seem so forgetful. However, even if that’s not an option, you can just check the Facebook pages of friends you know are visiting. Just sort their friend lists to show only locals and skim through. If you took a careful approach, you would be combing through the lists all day, so don’t do that. Just freshen up and keep an eye on people you often forget.

This is an obvious trick at first glance, but it’s also one that few of us are likely to bother with. In addition, in addition to having a good memory, people will think that you are better attentive and less involved in yourself than you really are.
