Google CS First Teaches Kids Programming and Computer Science for Free
Children these days can learn computer science and programming in many ways. Add to that: Google’s own CS First curriculum, a freeware with a variety of topics for all kinds of children’s interests.
CS First is not new (started last year), but since the program is for community teachers and volunteers who create computer science clubs for kids ages 9-14, you might not have heard of it.
Lesson topics include music and sound (creating a music video and creating an interactive music display), fashion and design (creating fashion-themed apps), storytelling (creating interactive stories), game design (creating a game), etc.
All materials (videos, Scratch programming and lesson plans) are freely available on the Internet, so parents – whether they are homeschooling or not – and children with a lot of initiative can check the lessons for themselves. Or better yet, start a club in your area.
