Scenic Brings Search Results, News and Bing Photos to Your Lock Screen
Android: Just months after the release of Next Lock Screen for Android, Microsoft is back with a second lock screen replacement app. This allows you to search the web (via Bing, of course), get notifications, check the latest news, and change your wallpaper – all without unlocking your phone.
Picturesque, as the name suggests, is pretty pretty. It uses Bing background images that you can set as wallpaper or as you like by shaking your phone.
There is a Bing search box for quickly finding something on the go (search results and web pages open as an overlay on the lock screen), as well as separate screens for browsing the news feed or switching your device’s settings.
If you are concerned about battery life, you can turn off the news feed or set it to update less often, and download images only over Wi-Fi.
It looks like there are not all the features here yet. I have not seen the weather forecast and only one of my favorite app shortcuts is displayed on the lock screen.
However, it is a cute app that can come in handy for those of us who tend to look for information on our phones always impulsively. Please note that as with Next Lock Screen, you need to enable PIN lock for security.
