Fix Cracks in the Cutting Board With Wood Glue and Sandpaper
Cutting boards can be expensive, so these inevitable little cracks are always annoying. But you can fill them fairly easily with wood glue and sandpaper.
You don’t want to live with these cracks because, as Kitchen explains, they are the primary habitat for bacteria. They offer an easy way to fix small cracks. All you really need is sandpaper, mineral oil and FDA approved wood glue. They recommend Titebond III Ultimate Wood Glue.
To apply the glue deep into the cracked wood, you can use a plastic syringe to apply it, effectively pushing the glue into the crack. Use a little more – any glue that sticks out on the surface of the board can be sanded off as soon as it dries. Titebond III is completely dry after 24 hours – read the label carefully to follow the drying instructions for any brand you have used. Use a very fine grit sandpaper – sand it with small, soft circles – until the filled seam is flush with the board.
